Nuclear decommissioning skills needed, report says

A report on nuclear decommissioning by the Joint Research Centre and the University of Birmingham has identified harmonising education and training programmes as a key consideration in successfully dismantling nuclear installations.

The report, published on 11 December, recommends a combined effort from universities and institutes to create a joint modular training programme in decommissioning that could be practiced at different locations in Europe.

The document, Nuclear decommissioning: A Growing Sector in Need of Resources and Innovation, is based on presentations and discussions following a two day seminar held in April 2015 by the University of Birmingham and the JRC.
