Plans to overhaul the EU’s car approval system in the wake of the Volkswagen emissions scandal will demonstrate a “fundamental revision” according to leaked plans obtained by the Financial Times.
Brussels officials are seeking new powers to police carmakers’ compliance with emissions rules after regulatory failings led widespread cheating by Germany’s Volkswagen to be exposed by US regulators.
The Commission, who was planning a limited overhaul prior to the revelations, has now put significantly more far reaching options on the table, the FT reported on 11 January.
