Robotics R&D and regulation will become a major priority for the EU, a vice-president of the European Commission has said.
In a blog on 10 November, Andrus Ansip—the EU commissioner for the digital single market—outlined why he believed the field was so important in Europe. “Robots are here to stay and a strong robotics industry is key to Europe’s future competitiveness,” he said. “The economic opportunities are huge and Europe cannot afford to miss out.”
He said the EU would continue to expand its R&D programme for robotics, particularly the SPARC partnership between industry and universities.
