The European Chemicals Agency has recommended for nine substances “of very high concern” to be subjected to strict controls until they are gradually replaced.
The ECHA has identified nine new substances as toxic for reproduction, and recommended that they are added to the REACH Authorisation List. The REACH list a procedure to control and progressively replace the use of dangerous substances in EU-marketed products.
Substances added to the list must have been identified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction, or otherwise persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic. Substances for which there is scientific evidence of serious adverse effects may also be recommended for inclusion in REACH on a case-by-case basis.
