The European Parliament’s transport committee has backed the creation of an EU agency for the regulation of vehicle emissions following the ‘dieselgate’ scandal.
The committee backed the establishment of a European Agency for the approval and market surveillance of the automotive industry in a meeting on 5 November.
The proposal, from the Parliament’s internal market committee, calls for the strengthening of the existing ‘type-approval’ framework by introducing market surveillance provisions, streamlining cooperation between national authorities, improving the traceability of products and strengthening provisions for recalling vehicles.
