Many research funders across Europe lack a clear policy on research integrity and struggle to raise awareness of the issue, a report has said.
The problem is caused by a general lack of definition of what research integrity means and a dearth in available training and information, said Science Europe, an association of research funders. In a survey of national research funders, undertaken by the organisation, many respondents said they were unclear about the difference between research integrity and research ethics.
Only 24 out of the 33 responding organisations said they had a research integrity policy, and only 17 said they were actively promoting it.
