The European Commission has launched an online portal on public health, with the aim of providing timely and accurate information for policymakers and the public.
The Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Knowledge Gateway was developed by the Joint Research Centre, the Commission’s science service, and its Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety. It was launched on 4 December.
In addition to being a ‘one-stop shop’ for those working in public-health policy, the portal is also intended for the general public. It will publish themed reference guides, examples of best practice and EU-wide data, and also suggest possible actions and interventions. The subjects of its first publications include food marketing, nutrition and exercise.
