The European Commission is seeking to give the EU greater powers over cybersecurity research and innovation.
Under Commission proposals published on 13 September, the EU Agency for Network and Information Security would be given a mandate to advise EU and national authorities on needs and priorities in cybersecurity R&D.
This advice would be issued “with a view to enabling effective responses to current and emerging risks and threats, including with respect to new and emerging ICT, and to using risk-prevention technologies effectively”, according to the proposal. Enisa would also gain a role in implementing relevant EU funding programmes.
