The EU’s next R&D programme should channel resources into better understanding the effects of chemicals that disrupt hormone systems in people and animals, according to the European Commission’s new strategy for the problem.
Accelerating research that could inform future decision-making on these endocrine-disrupting chemicals was one of three Commission priorities for tackling them, announced on 7 November.
“In its future Framework programme for research and innovation, Horizon Europe, the Commission will continue to ensure the necessary support to research on protecting citizens and environment from exposure to harmful chemicals, including endocrine disrupters, building on the work under the current framework programme, Horizon 2020,” a document setting out a new strategy for endocrine disrupters says.
