Commission plans to encourage personal data sharing for research

Draft EU law seeks ‘data altruism’ in which individuals give consent for specific R&D uses

People in the EU could be given the ability to choose what type of research their personal data are used for, if a draft law proposed by the European Commission proves popular with policymakers.

The draft Data Governance Act, published by the Commission on 25 November, seeks to enable “the emergence of pools of data made available on the basis of data altruism”.
