EMBO sets out case for pan-EU body to investigate misconduct

Funder-backed investigations could help tackle patchwork approach to research integrity issues

A leading European research organisation has set out the case for a pan-EU body to investigate research misconduct and warned that a more coordinated approach to investigating integrity issues is sorely needed.

The current patchwork of approaches to misconduct across Europe presents inconsistencies that can undermine efforts to punish misconduct and promote academic integrity, says the European Molecular Biology Organisation, which funds and performs research.
