European human rights body seeks protections from biotech

Council of Europe sets out strategy for ethical oversight of biomedical technology R&D

The Council of Europe, one of the continent’s most influential human rights organisations, has set out a five-year plan for the ethical development of biomedical technologies.

The plan, published on 24 June, covers technology governance, access to innovative treatments, good practices for involving vulnerable people, and strategies for communication and cooperation.
