Market commissioner Thierry Breton announces plan for new rules and underlying technologies
The European Commission wants to prevent the metaverse—which it describes as “a new form of virtual space”—from becoming a lawless “wild west” that could harm European citizens.
It will work to develop new rules, technology and data infrastructure to ensure the metaverse becomes “centred on Europe’s values”, EU market commissioner Thierry Breton said in a blog post on 14 September.
