European Parliament to debate feared petition on animal research

MEPs and campaigners will discuss “need to modernise science in the EU”

Committees of the European Parliament are set to debate a controversial petition calling on the EU to set a timeframe for phasing out the use of animals in R&D, which research organisations have warned would severely undermine biomedical research in the bloc.

The debate on the European Citizens’ Initiative petition will take place on 25 May, led by the environment committee, and with the involvement of the agriculture committee and a committee on petitions.
