Further complaints from universities about EU data act

League of European Research Universities sounds alarm about scope and costs of initiative

Another university group has raised concerns about EU laws being developed to govern how researchers access data generated by consumer and commercial devices, such as fitness trackers and industrial equipment.

The European Commission proposed the Data Act in February 2022 to “open opportunities for data-driven innovation and make data more accessible for all”. Suggested amendments from the Council of the EU member state governments and European Parliament have prompted a mixture of praise and alarm among various university groups.
