European Citizens’ Initiative calls for roadmap to end all uses of animals in EU research
A petition calling on the EU to commit to a roadmap to end all uses of animals in its research will sound the “death knell for European biomedical science” if taken up, groups representing research institutes and universities have said.
The European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI), which received more than 1.4 million signatures before it closed in August, was organised by non-profit groups advocating for the ethical treatment of animals. Its backing exceeded the 1 million signatures needed to compel the European Commission to respond.
