Member states remain divided on proposal to ease regulation of gene-edited crops

Member state governments have reportedly been unable to agree a position on a proposal to relax the EU’s regulations on crops made using so-called new genomic techniques, potentially causing major delays to the plan, which is broadly backed by researchers.

Media reported this week that the position on NGTs was removed from the agenda of a meeting of EU ambassadors due to take place on 26 June, because governments, including that of Poland, still have reservations about the proposed stance to be adopted by the Council of the EU member states.
