Talks start on EU-China data flows intended to boost R&D

Discussions aim to make operating in China easier for EU companies

Officials in the EU and China have begun talks on improving data flows between the country and the bloc, with the European Commission expressing a hope that this will improve opportunities for R&D and business activities more generally.

The first talks under the Cross-Border Data Flow Communication Mechanism took place on 27 August and are intended to “facilitate cross-border transfers of non-personal data for European businesses, as well as their compliance with Chinese data laws”, the Commission said.
