Swedes spend tenth of research time applying for funding

Researchers spend 10 per cent of their research time applying for funding, according to an analysis by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education published on 23 November.

Based on data from 2009, lecturers spend 40 per cent of their time on research. Of this, 10 per cent is spent applying for external funds, which makes up roughly half of the research funding at Sweden’s universities.
