VR rejects bibliometric indicators

Sweden’s science council VR has rejected government proposals to base part of the country's university block grants on publication statistics and success in securing external funding.

In its response to the proposal, VR says a better solution would be to have a panel of international peers review research quality. The government proposes to allocate ten per cent of block grants based on institutional performance.
