Foundation backs institute PhDs

The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) is to fund a PhD programme for students at research institutes.

The PhD programme for research institutes (FID) aims to promote mobility between academia and industry, and will complement the foundation’s strategic mobility and industrial PhD programme, the SSF said in a statement on 30 November.

The SSF has allocated 20 million Swedish kronor (€2m) to the initiative for the first year. Each grant will cover a PhD student employed at a research institute in Sweden that collaborates with industry and academia. The grants will be provided for four to five years, and the SSF said it expected to fund eight grants of up to kr2.5m in the first call.
