Government proposes quality assurance plan

The Swedish government has presented a proposal to strengthen the quality of education at universities.

The quality assurance plan, proposed on 18 March, covers four areas: the rights of universities to distribute degrees; auditing universities’ evaluation systems; improved quality of education; and subject-specific evaluations.

The Swedish Higher Education Authority, the UKÄ, will be responsible for implementing university audits, which will assess whether students reach their intended goals and monitor progress on quality assurance. Student representatives as well as university leaders will be asked to contribute to the process, the government said.
