ESS seeks director-general

The European Spallation Source, a neutron-based particle accelerator under construction in Lund, has announced it is recruiting for its next director-general.

The recruitment process began after current director-general Jim Yeck opted to not extend his contract, citing personal reasons. The ESS said in a statement on 21 January that Yeck would step down once a successor has been appointed.

Yeck has led the ESS since 2013. Construction of the €1.8-billion facility began in September 2014, after 97 per cent of funding was secured. The construction is expected to finish in 2025.
