The UK’s exit from the EU will see the loss of a strong research partner, which hampers Sweden’s position in negotiating the next Framework programme, a report has warned.
Brexit could reduce the EU’s focus on and budget for excellent science, and Sweden should step up its efforts to push for more programmes based on excellence to avoid losing out in Framework 9, the report said.
The report examines Sweden’s one-on-one research collaboration with the UK and within the Framework programme, and tries to predict the consequences of Brexit on Swedish research. The UK is Sweden’s second-largest partner in the Framework programme after Germany, and the largest in medicine, health and aeronautics research.
