Japanese university group to team up with Leru

The League of European Research Universities plans to strengthen its collaboration with the RU11, a group of 11 Japanese research-intensive universities.

RU11 representatives met with members of the European organisation at the Leru rectors meeting in Oxford, UK, on 15 November, and now plan to establish formal collaborations with Leru members.

Kurt Deketelaere, secretary-general of Leru, says this includes signing up to the Hefei statement, which aims to identify and tackle the common problems faced by research-intensive universities. The statement was published in October and signed by the Association of American Universities, the Consortium of China Nine Research Universities and the Group of Eight Australia.
