U-Multirank, the European Commission's ranking project, has said concerns raised by the UK Higher Education International Unit about the potential harmfulness of U-Multirank’s approach “lack validity”.
U-Multirank’s statement, published on 22 May, responds to a policy note from the UK body the week before. The policy note raises a number of issues about the ranking, including its funding and method, and concludes: “Because of the concerns expressed above, the UK HE International Unit holds that U-Multirank may harm rather than benefit the sector.”
In its response, U-Multirank says “we strongly reject” the UK organisation’s conclusion. It goes on to refute each of the objections raised in the policy note.
