Budget cuts destroy cooperation, academics warn

The European University Association is warning that the economic crisis is widening the gap in funding between institutions in different parts of Europe, undoing much of the effort put into greater collaboration.

The EUA’s Public Funding Observatory report published on 10 June shows that universities in southern and eastern Europe are generally facing harsher conditions than their counterparts in the north and west.

This situation is unsustainable both for the affected countries and Europe as a whole, the EUA warns.
