Microsoft-founder Bill Gates has joined investors to pledge $35-million (€27m) of funds for ResearchGate, a social network for researchers based in Berlin.
The investment, made by Gates alongside Tenaya Capital, Dragoneer Investment Group, Thrive Capital and the Benchmark and Founders Fund, will be used to connect scientists with data and resources, say the website’s founders.
ResearchGate is an online network that allows researchers to exchange data and results, and help each other with their projects. For example, the website contains a message board on which researchers can post questions and requests for data, which other users can then help with.
