Member states told to learn more from each other’s policy

The European Research Area must use differences in research policy as an advantage when trying to solve common problems, according to Science Europe.

Science Europe, an association of research organisations and funders published a position statement about ERA progress on 7 November.

The ERA, a political model under which researchers and knowledge can move freely around Europe, should allow for mutual learning and collaboration while maintaining competitive funding and celebrating differences in national funding models, Science Europe said. Acknowledging these different models is crucial, as too little is known about "the complexity of the drivers behind the effectiveness of national research system", the association stated.
