EU-Africa university partnership broadens

The EU is aiming to expand cooperation with African universities from 60 participating institutions now to 120 by 2015, the European Commission has announced.

Androulla Vassilou, the education commissioner, will meet representatives of 60 African universities in Brussels on 27 March to discuss more cooperation, as part of the African Higher Education Harmonisation and Tuning event.

The event was first launched in 2011 and aims to improve the quality of courses at African universities through involving professors and other employers in designing the curricula. The initiative also provides information on carrying out quality assurance and accreditation.
