The European University Association has backed a campaign by Swiss universities to continue participating in EU-funded research projects.
Swiss participation in Horizon 2020 and Erasmus programme is under threat after a Swiss referendum in February, which supported a quota system on EU citizens entering Switzerland. This does not comply with EU law, and as a result Switzerland’s Horizon 2020 accession talks have been put on hold.
Swiss universities and student associations have set up an online petition calling for their continued participation in the European Higher Education Area. The EUA is supporting this campaign, insisting that having no Swiss nationals in EU-funded initiatives is harmful to both sides.
