Greece outlines university reform

The Greek education minister Aristides Baltas has announced plans to reform the country’s university system, but has said universities are unlikely to receive any additional funds.

Baltas outlined the plans during the government’s inaugural statement in parliament on 16 February, according to the Greek daily newspaper Ekathimerini.

One of the main aspects of the plan will be to abolish the universities’ management councils, Baltas is reported to have said. The government will also set a cap on the number of students to attend higher education, based on the maximum capacity of institutions.
