A Turkish university president has lost her post, despite her reappointment being supported by 90 per cent of voters at her university, following an intervention by the government.
According to the European University Association, Gülay Barbarosoglu, president-elect of Bogaziçi University in Istanbul, was demoted from her post this month. She received 349 out of 399 votes from the university staff during presidential elections held at 18 Turkish universities in July.
