Institute backed by Chinese state did not meet ‘basic principle of free research’, university says
The Free University of Brussels has joined a growing list of European institutions that have decided to no longer host a Confucius Institute.
On 10 December the VUB’s board decided it would not renew a hosting agreement with the China-backed Confucius Institute, which runs out in June 2020.
