
A nascent advocacy group hopes to spur stronger action on LGBTQ+ rights in academia
Aidan Gilligan is not one to sit quietly—especially when the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and other sexual minority groups are at stake. The founder and chief executive of SciCom, a consultancy for communicating challenging science, is fed up with what he sees as academia’s reluctance to tackle LGBTQ+ rights, and is taking action.
“While the European Commission is withdrawing funding to cities [in Poland that adopted ‘LGBTQ-free zones’], our conference programmes or side diplomacy conversations are deafening in their silence about such topics,” he tells Research Europe.
