Commission to analyse researcher pay and movement

Institution ‘ready to step up’ on European Research Area

The European Commission is carrying out a “detailed analysis” of differences in researcher pay among EU member states, to inform its attempts to turn the loss of skilled researchers from certain regions into a more balanced circulation, R&D commissioner Mariya Gabriel has revealed.

“I will take a closer look at the question of wages”, Gabriel said at an informal meeting of research ministers that took place in Zagreb earlier this month. But she said that results of the analysis will not be available until the end of 2021.
