Universities want EU spending target for higher education

Sustainability needed as Covid-19 threatens ‘potentially dire consequences’ for education funding, group says

Just as the EU has a target to spend 3 per cent of its GDP on R&D, it should also have a target to spend a certain share of its GDP on higher education, according to a group of universities.

“We urge the EU to adopt an enforceable percentage of GDP target for funding for higher education in line with the best-performing regions in the world”, the Cesaer group of science and technology universities said in a position paper it published on 20 April.
