University leaders ‘encouraged’ by results of women-only hiring

Increase in female professors more than doubled following radical move, university says

Eindhoven University of Technology has reported that the rate at which it has been able to increase the proportion of women in faculty positions has more than doubled since it implemented a radical women-only hiring policy in July 2019.

Under the policy, only women are eligible for faculty positions for the first six months of the positions becoming available. The university said that, before the policy was introduced, the share of faculty positions held by women was increasing by just 1 per cent per year.
