Commission’s Erasmus+ budget ‘undermines its own target’

Parliament committee trashes ‘unacceptable’ Commission funding proposal for exchange programme

The Erasmus+ academic exchange programme will not be able to meet the European Commission’s stated objective of allowing 12 million people to experience education abroad during 2021-27, according to the European Parliament’s education committee.

The critique came from MEP Sabine Verheyen, whose committee is scrutinising what she called an “unacceptable” updated proposal for the EU’s 2021-27 budget, which was released by the Commission on 27 May in response to disagreement in the European Council over earlier proposals.
