Researchers in Spain and Italy strike over Covid-19 support

More money for stymied projects sought by early career researchers

Junior researchers in Spain and Italy have staged a ‘virtual strike’ urging their governments to support researchers affected by Covid-19.

The 17 June move saw PhD students and other researchers step back from work in both nations. Strikers—backed by the umbrella group the European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers (Eurodoc)—are calling on their governments to give them more money to weather the pandemic. Researchers in both nations are seeking funding to extend the duration of research that has been derailed by Covid-19 lockdowns.
