Croatian EU presidency calls for monitoring of researcher wages

More equal pay across EU nations could help stop brain drain, says Croatian call to action

Croatia’s outgoing presidency of the Council of the EU has urged increased scrutiny of researcher salaries. The call for action is part of the presidency’s priority to reduce the ‘brain drain’ of talented researchers from some member states.

“Major disparities still exist between EU countries and regions, and in some cases they are even becoming more pronounced,” the presidency said in its Zagreb Call for Action on Brain Circulation. The presidency published the call in the final month of its turn at directing the EU-related activities of member state governments before handing the reins over to Germany on 1 July.
