Inclusiveness and visibility among proposed ERA priorities

Nobody outside policy circles knows what the European Research Area is, says EU adviser

The European Research Area, a policy initiative to boost the free movement of researchers and knowledge in Europe, must become a “more familiar concept” among researchers and ensure that no researchers are left out, the chair of an advisory group has said.

“Nobody beyond a small group of specialists knows what the ERA is,” said Eduardo Maldonado, president of the Portuguese National Innovation Agency and chair of a working group that advises EU policymakers on the future of the ERA, in a report published on 18 September.
