Commission ‘will address’ European University funding

Complications around separate funding from Horizon 2020 and Erasmus+ on Commission agenda

The European Commission is planning to address concerns that the use of two different EU funding streams to support European Universities—cross-border institutional collaborations on education and research—is causing headaches for participants.

Since 2019, the EU has supported 41 European University networks involving 280 institutions—initially through its Erasmus+ mobility programme and later through its Horizon 2020 R&D programme. In an article published by Research Professional News earlier this month, the heads of eight networks praised the addition of the second stream but expressed concerns about practicalities.
