‘Slow’ universities must reinvent themselves, say EU advisers

Top Commission R&D official says group’s advice will help shape EU policy

Many European universities are stuck in their ways and need to reinvent themselves in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, a group of high-level advisers to the European Commission has said in a paper which the top Commission R&D official has said will help to shape EU policy.

“Despite significant public national and European investment and policy actions, a considerable portion of universities has been slow to embrace change,” the Expert Group on the Economic and Societal Impact of Research and Innovation said in a focus paper it published this week.
