European Research Area ‘missing policy on fundamental research’

Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities pushing for new priority under ERA policy agenda for 2025-27

The leaders of 21 research-intensive European universities have said there needs to be a more explicit priority to support fundamental research under the European Research Area.

The ERA is a longstanding policy initiative for bringing EU countries closer together on research policies and raising research standards. In 2021, it adopted 18 policy priorities—referred to as ERA actions—for 2022-24, and discussions have already started on a new set of priorities for 2025-27.
