2019 was a year of elections. Europe alone saw around a dozen, from Finland to Spain and from Belgium to Estonia. Now, the UK will round off the year with a general election on 12 December.
Along with fallout from these nationwide political shifts, 2020 will see a power change at the top of the EU. Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker’s five-year term will end as soon as his successor Ursula von der Leyen gets her Commission approved by the European Parliament.
