Saying no to sovereignty?

Word reaches us from a well-placed source that the European Commission has apparently instructed its officials not to use the word “sovereignty” when referring to Europe’s ability to defend its interests, but instead to use the word “autonomy”. We have so far been unable to confirm the tip with other sources. If true, though, it would represent something of a linguistic departure for the Commission.
