The EU needs to hear a new story on Horizon’s budget

Researchers have always known that bids for EU funding are generally destined to fail.

The fact that the EU’s research and innovation programme receives many more high-quality research proposals than it can fund is a problem that resurfaces every time thoughts turn to the programme’s budget. But despite the issue’s familiarity, news that more than two-thirds of high-quality research proposals pitched to Horizon Europe are still going unfunded is a wake-up call.
