Philosopher scoops Otago’s highest research honour

Alan Musgrave, a philosopher of science, has been awarded the Distinguished Research Medal, the University of Otago’s highest research accolade.

The medal is awarded for outstanding scholarly achievement, including the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge, the development of innovative technology, or the development of concepts that lead to significant advances, the university said on 20 July.

Born in Manchester, England, Musgrave was appointed professor of philosophy and head of department at Otago in 1970, holding the latter position until 2005.
