Primary industries ministry appoints science adviser

Ian Ferguson, chief scientist at the government-owned Crown Research Institute Plant and Food Research, has been named science adviser to the ministry for primary industries (MPI), it was announced on 20 August.

The part-time appointment, which will run for three years, aims to ensure that the ministry is well connected in the science community, the government said.

Ferguson’s research career spans areas such as plant and fruit physiology, post-harvest and horticultural science, biochemistry and biotechnology.

He will take up the role in mid-September while maintaining his position at the Institute.
